Proof-reading of documents in Russian, Ukrainian and other East European languages

Proof-reading is a comprehensive check of the work by a second translator, usually a native speaker with fully competent knowledge of specific subject areas. A proof-reader should specialise in the subject matter of the text, in order to ensure that the work has met the highest standards in all respects. It is recommended where accuracy is vital and the work is intended for publication, in order to present a professional image.

A proof-reader will consider the style and vocabulary of the translation, as well as accuracy and grammar and may make constructive suggestions to improve the clarity of the text. He or she will verify tables, figures, numbers, abbreviations, names, punctuation, metric conversions, etc., to ensure that there are no spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, misunderstandings, omissions or ambiguities in the translation and that the work has met the highest quality standards.

PROOF-READING RATES

Rates are calculated on an hourly basis according to the technicality of the subject matter and, as a rough guide, one hour should be allowed per 1,000 words of text. However, if the text is long, the proof-reader will gain familiarity with the project and may work faster.
